Pretending I like this place
I tried so hard to show up with a smile on my face
But then you stabbed me in the back five minutes after I walked through the door.
And why I ask? Your only reply was it was you or me, and you knew I wouldn’t fight back.
But here I am with no emotions left to give and a little care left as I show up and do the work.
I know this is my defense method, but there is no going back to that smiling coworker, as you’ve broken my trust for the last time.
The only thing I can say is I’m done showing all of me, and now you get none of me, and when I leave, I know you regret how you treated me.
And so I hope you will learn something from this day, and if not, that’s fine. Karma will know where to find you next time.

I love your very mic drop ending and how the cadence and flow shift as your emotions do in the poem. Fabulous write!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed this piece!
