That this is the life I’m supposed to have
Sometimes can be hard to carry with me all the time.
For it’s not just the color of my skin that makes me a target.
But being different makes it hard too.
I realize that I love being a black woman, and the history of what we have accomplished is impressive.
But does that make us accept that we, too, should live a life of being humble?
And not be too proud that we change who we are to fit in among the crowd.
When do we just accept that we are apart of this race and that we don’t have to act a sure way to fit in.
And even if that is the case.
The truth is God made you the way you are, and I have come too far to let others tell me otherwise.
I respect those who came before and used who they were to make a difference, so we all can have a dream.
So I accept who I am and what I stand for, for I know my words and actions will be different.
For I have so many resources to look to, but I won’t change to be accepted by others when there is a higher power to them.
